The youth unemployment rate in cities is greater than 20%. The government announced their plan on Tuesday to recruit 10 lakh people over the next 1.5 years.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Narendra Modi reviewed the staff in all departments and ministries.

The PMO said that the government will recruit 10 lakh people within 1.5 years.
Amit Shah spoke about the basis of New India, which is its youth power. Modi has been working hard to empower youth and make 10 lakh recruitment in 1.5 years.
Finance Minister Sitharaman said, “The PMO of India has decided to recruit 10 lakh people in the next 1.5 years.”
Along with important decisions such as providing employment to the youth, the AI-powered agricultural group will likely follow PM Modi’s instructions for “filling up all vacant posts of agricultural officers in Agriculture Ministry at earliest.”
Over the last several quarters, 20% of youth youth have been unemployed.
Youth unemployment has been a growing concern in recent years. The most recent survey done during October-December 2021 (according to the Quarterly Bulletin of Periodic Labour Force Survey ) shows that youth unemployment rate was at 20.8% in urban areas.
Earlier this year, reports indicated that about one fifth of the posts in various public organizations lay vacant. The central government employs 41 lakh civil servants, including 12.29 lakh officers, but has 22% of these positions open to be filled.
Though the number of job vacancies is high, recruitment has not increased proportionately.
There are 2 different agencies, SSC and UPSC. Between 2017-18 and 2021-22, from these two agencies, 1,85,734 posts were advertised and officials recruited 1,74,744 candidates. Likewise for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), 27,764 posts were advertised and 24,836 candidates were recruited.
