Nike sneakers NFT recently sold for $130,000. They were created using the company’s Robotic and 3D printing. The sneaker in question is an NFT. It’s called Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks collection.
Of the 20,000 virtual sneakers in the set, 98 of them come with this design. Collectors are willing to pay as much as $9,000 for one. Since launching last Friday, people have been paying most up to $5,000 for these shoes.
Nike is investing in the future of technology as well. They acquired RTFKT and created an online metaverse frequented by millions every day.
Adidas is not the only company venturing into “Web3”. In December, Adidas released it’s Metaverse collection of 30,000 NFTs. Ownership of these NFTs offers both virtual and real life clothing, as well as Adidas putting Gucci clothing on Pudgy Penguin avatars.
RTFKT has partnered with Takashi Murakami for new NFT model Clone X. Membership includes a pack of 20,000 3D anime-inspired profile picture art along with perks for a low membership fee. In the most recent release, fans were dropped a mysterious box that was eventually revealed to contain two Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks and vials that can be equipped to change its colorway.
The shoes being sold for thousands of dollars were airdropped for free to holders of the curreny, Clone X.
Sneakers with different vials can be sold on the website, and these are going for large sums. One unique vial sold for $449,000 (150 ether). The sneaker skins of the sneakers can improve through quests that happen online.
As of yet, there have not been any announced plans to create real-life versions of digital goods that people hold. Though Snapchat filters have been created for countries to wear their shoes in AR, only about one third of those who own Clone X have used it to open mystery boxes. Two thirds of Cryptokicks have yet to enter circulation.
